Toddler Nutrition Care Feeding

Feeding Your Toddler
It is VERY important to provide your child with healthy choices and a certain level of experimentation. Thi sis an important time for them, and your efforts now can last a lifetime. Mealtimes should always be made enjoyable and pleasant, if they become a source of trouble, it will only get worse as they get older. Some of the most common mistakes made are forcing children who are not hungry to eat and allowing the child to drink too much milk or juice so that they aren't hungry for solids. Try to avoid a large amounts of sweets, soft drinks or fruit flavored drinks they are of little nutritional value and wayyyyy to much sugar.
This is also the stage where your child may start to refuse to eat certain foods. This is one of the first ways a child learns to be independent. Even if your child is not eating as well as you would like, as long as your child is growing normally and has a normal energy level, there is probably little to worry about.
After all, this is a period in their development where they are not growing very rapidly and do not need a lot of caloric intake.
It is important for you to provide three well balanced meals each day, remember that most children will only eat one or two full meals each day. If you child has two good meals a day, then it is okay that he doesn't want to eat much a third. Even though your child will likely be hesitant to try new foods, offer small amounts of them once or twice a week, this keeps them from getting to bogged down with such a limited selection. Most children will try a new food after being offered it 10-15 times.
Other important ways to prevent feeding problems are avoiding a few common mistakes. Do not use food as a bribe or reward for desired behaviors and avoid punishing your child for not eating well. Keep snacks under control, and provide only nutritious and healthy snack alternatives. If a child is not hungry do not force them to eat, but if there is a later mean in the day expect them to eat the one they chose not to eat earlier. Do not let them siply discard one selection for another.
